This building was built with 1,100 statues inset into the walls. Each statue is intricately carved - definitely an indication of not only the craftsmanship but the patience of the Chinese artist. Unfortunately, the emperor who had this building crafted was removed from office by his predicessor and in a fit of rage at the previous emperor, the new emperor started cutting off the heads of the statues. Fortunately, he grew tired and failed to complete the task. So, some of the statues still have their heads (most actually).
