Kilauea Volcanic Crater

The Kilauea Volcanic Crater has been erupting off an on for over 100 years. The maps that the park provide detail the areas all around the park and their respective year of volcanic activity. The Kilauea Crater is 4 miles in diameter and it contains many other smaller craters, including Kilauea Iki ("Little Kilauea") and Halema'uma'u Crater. Because Kilauea is still an active volcano, it is possible that this crater will once again become a lake of liquid hot magma! Fortunately for us, that time did not coincide with our drive through the crater.
